Training Opportunities
The San Diego Humane Society is not only unique in the programs and services we offer but also in the continual training we offer to keep our staff growing and learning. We offer an extensive Animal Services Training Program that is open to all staff and that provides our employees with the in-depth knowledge they need to better serve the community and our animals.
The program allows an employee to advance up to four levels ranging from Animal Caregiver, Adoption Counselor, Behavior Counselor, and Behavior Assessment Certification. The currently offered training programs include:
- Level 1: Animal Caregiver
- Level 2: Adoption Counselor
- Additional 46 hours of training
- Level 3: Behavior Counselor
- Additional 90 hours of training
- Level 4:Practical Certified Euthanasia Training examination
- Behavior Assessment Certification
- Additional 57 hours of training
Practical examination Classes include topics such as customer service, canines, felines, small pets, breed identification, basic veterinary procedures, sanitation, positive reinforcement and much more. Staff assigned to our Feline Nursery must complete a special training course and pass an exam to demonstrate their knowledge. |
