Training Opportunities
The San Diego Humane Society is unique in the way we train our staff. We offer an extensive Animal Services Training Program that is open to all staff and that provides our employees with in-depth knowledge they need to better serve the community and our animals. The program allows an employee to advance up to four levels ranging from Animal Caregiver, Adoption Counselor, Behavior Counselor, and Behavior Assessment Certification. The levels require an 80% passing grade on each written exam, and are defined as follows:
- Level 1: Animal Caregiver
- Level 2: Adoption Counselor
- Additional 46 hours of training
- Level 3: Behavior Counselor
- Additional 90 hours of training
- Level 4:Practical Certified Euthanasia Training examination
- Behavior Assessment Certification
- Additional 57 hours of training
- Practical examination
Classes include topics such as customer service, canines, felines, small pets, breed identification, basic veterinary procedures, sanitation, positive reinforcement and much more.
