Litter Abatement

If your pet has had a litter, you can bring the offspring to the San Diego Campus for Animal Care and the Humane Society will take in the litter and spay and neuter the parent animals free of charge through our Litter Abatement Program (LAP).

The altering of pets helps to curb the pet overpopulation in our area. The goal of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA is to help save the life of every adoptable animal and this is just another way we strive to reach this goal.

To bring in your litter and schedule your LAP surgery appointment, please call
(619) 299-7012, ext. 2241 or 2240.

Other Spay / Neuter Resources:

  • The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services (DAS) offers free spay or neuter rebate coupons valued at up to $50 to pet owners who reside in Department service areas. The spay-neuter rebate coupon can be applied toward the cost of surgery or
    redeemed after the surgery.

  • The Spay / Neuter Action Project (SNAP) of San Diego and its Neuter Scooter are dedicated to providing responsible pet owner education and accessible spay and neuter procedures to low-income pet owners and caretakers of strays.
