Found an Animal?
The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA receives lost reports from owners searching for their animals. This search should be utilized if you have found an animal as it will display animals that have been reported to the shelter as lost.
In addition to your searches, if the animal was found in or around the city of Oceanside or Vista, please bring the animal to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s North Campus in Oceanside. You may contact our facility for the appropriate animal you have found:
• For Dogs call 760-730-8854 • For Cats or Small Animals call 760-681-5751
It is advised that you take the animal to a local veterinarian office or clinic or to the shelter to have them scanned for a microchip to try to locate the owner. However, if you are unable to locate the owner within the first day, please bring the animal to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA.
Please bring the animal to the shelter and do not attempt to find the animal a new home or assume that an owner is not looking for their lost pet. Most owners will be searching local shelters to find their animal and the animal will have a much greater likelihood of being reuniting with its owner if the animal is at the shelter.
If the owner is not located and you are interested in adopting the animal as your own, the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA will be happy to provide you the information needed to adopt the animal. Legally, the transfer of ownership of a lost animal may only be completed after the required holding period.
