NEWS & UPDATES

Thanksgiving Hours

All San Diego Humane Society campus locations will be closing at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26 and will remain closed through the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen for normal business hours on Friday, November 28.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family (two and four-legged)!

Increase in Canine Distemper

When California experiences extreme weather such as drought, it can create an even greater need to vaccinate and monitor our pets. This year in particular, the drought has produced an increase in canine distemper in wild mammal populations throughout all of San Diego County.

Wildlife does not intentionally choose to approach or have encounters with domestic animals, and while it is unlikely that distemper would be passed to your pet, it is still a good reminder to make sure pets are up to date on all their vaccines - it's very important in keeping them safe and healthy!

If you observe a wild mammal in your area that does not appear well, you can call Project Wildlife (619-225-WILD) or your local animal services to learn more about what you are observing and how to get help for the animal.

San Diego Pets Magazine

The San Diego Humane Society and San Diego Magazine have co-published a consumer magazine for San Diego pet-lovers. The new quarterly magazine offers news, tips, resources and much more related to being a pet owner in San Diego.

We're Named a Four-Star Charity Again!

We're proud to announce that we've once again earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's largest independent evaluator of non-profit organizations. Fewer than 6% of non-profits receive this four star designation for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

This is our fourth consecutive year of receiving this award and demonstrates our commitment to sound governance and best practices for ethical operations in a fiscally responsible way. We're very proud of this distinction, and we're grateful to the many donors and supporters who value our work in the community. You can read the (PDF) letter here >
