Canine Good Citizen
Help your dog become a valued member of the community
Canine Good Citizen class is
extremely beneficial to you, your dog and the relationship with your dog. In some instances, a dog that is certified as
a “Canine Good Citizen” may be entitled to special benefits, discounts or provide
other helpful advantages.
Canine Good Citizen is an
intermediate-level obedience course geared towards passing the Canine Good
Citizen certification test. The class may be taken with or without
certification test.
Course and test topics include:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Calmness walking on leash with distractions
- Sit and down with stay
- Coming when called with distractions
- Calmness around dogs and other distractions
- Calmness when separated from owner
- And More.
Canine Good Citizen is five sessions
long held at both our Central campus on Gaines Street and at our North Campus
on Airport Road in Oceanside. Four
sessions include class time and the final session is for testing. Each session
is 1 hour and 15 minutes in length.
Canine Good Citizen is for dogs over 18 weeks of
age. Completion of Head Start, or similar positive- reinforcement course
including clicker training is required for this class. Proof of rabies
vaccination and pre-registration are required. All dogs must be non- aggressive
towards other dogs.
