San Diego Humane Society
and SPCA offers affordable classes and workshops to address a variety of
training needs for companion animals. Our
training philosophy is based on the behavioral science concepts of positive
reinforcement. Training your pet using these concepts will not only help them
learn new behaviors more quickly, but will also strengthen the bond you
share.

Private Training
Need
some one-on-one training time with your dog? Let us help you focus on individual
goals!
Private Behavior Training
sessions are designed to address training goals on an individual basis outside
of a classroom environment. Pets that are uncomfortable in groups with
people and other animals may benefit from learning skills on a one-on-one
basis. All sessions are held at San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s Central
Campus on Gaines St. Training plans are developed to individually monitor
your pet’s learning while promoting maximum progress. Your trainer will
provide personalized feedback on the training and handling skills you learn so
that you can improve your technique and implement these skills confidently (and
consistently!) when you are outside of the classroom environment.
Reasons
why a private behavior training session may be right for you and your dog:
- You prefer to not be a group class
- Your dog is not comfortable in a
group with people and other dogs
- You learn new skills one-on-one
- Your schedule does not work with
existing group classes
- You do not want to wait for the
next class to start
- You want to further develop your
training and handling skills
- You want personalized feedback on
your technique to make sure you are doing it correctly
- You want a professional to
individually monitor your dog's learning to promote maximum progress
San Diego Humane Society and SPCA offers two options for private
training, Private Behavior Training Level 1 and Level 2. Learn more about each option by selecting the

Other Behavior Professionals Canine and Feline aggression is best handled by a professional veterinarian who specializes in behavior or a certified applied animal behaviorist due to the potential for serious injury. Because phone or email counseling is inadequate for addressing a serious behavior concern like aggression, we ask that you contact a qualified behavior professional for help. For your convenience, we offer the following list of behavior professionals that are within a 60 mile radius of San Diego.
