Meow Madness Recap!

Thanks to all of the cat lovers that came to the San Diego Humane Society for Meow Madness on June 5! In addition to adoptable felines, we also showcased cat-friendly vendors and local artists. Happily, more than 40 cats and kittens found loving homes during the adoption weekend.

Kitten or Cat?

The San Diego Humane Society traditionally sees the number of cats brought into the shelter rise exponentially every Spring due to kitten season.  During this time, many potential adopters visit shelters looking to adopt a kitten, but the Humane Society also encourages anyone thinking of adopting a feline friend to strongly consider taking home one of the many great adult cats that are available.  An older cat’s more established personality and temperament yields better clues to how they will be in your home and an older cat will be past all of the kitten shenanigans, will be litterbox trained, and will have already blossomed into a great companion cat.

Adult cats also remain in shelter care longer than their canine counterparts—they spend an average of 25 days at the Humane Society before being adopted while adult dogs are usually adopted within only 8 days. So before you have your mind set on a kitten, consider a cat--they provide just as much loving companionship and need your help too!
