San Diego Humane Society and SPCA Receives Prestigious Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics
Having been recently honored by the American Humane Association as a national leader in the animal welfare field, the San Diego Humane Society was chosen from among many other San Diego nonprofit organizations for the top award.
December 5, 2006 — The coveted Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics attracts entries from businesses of all sizes throughout San Diego each year. This year’s top award for the Charity/Nonprofit category went to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA in recognition of their outstanding commitment to exceptional standards in relationship to their consumers, staff, volunteers, supplier partners, and the community at large.
“We are excited to have received the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics,” President of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, Dr. Mark Goldstein, said. “As an organization, we strive to act ethically and responsibly in all of our internal and external dealings and to be chosen from among many other exceptional charity and nonprofit groups for our conduct is a great honor.”
For the award, the Humane Society’s entry was reviewed and selected from the Charity/Nonprofit category by an independent panel of judges with expertise in business ethics. The winners for each category, including the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s award for the Charity/Nonprofit category, were announced at a luncheon held at the San Diego Convention Center by the San Diego Better Business Bureau on Tuesday.
Presented annually since 1998, the San Diego Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics honors businesses and organizations that demonstrate exceedingly high standards of behavior toward customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and communities; adherence to truthful and honorable advertising and sales practices; and, an earned reputation for noteworthy contributions to their industries and the communities in which they do business. The Torch Award is designed to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but also the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that our country's marketplace remains fair and honorable for all Americans.
Winning the Charity/Nonprofit section of the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics follows the San Diego Humane Society’s recent honor by the American Humane Association as a national leader in the animal welfare field for the Adoption Best Practices Award, for its innovative and effective pet adoption program.
