San Diego Humane Society and SPCA Honored by County Board of Supervisors

SAN DIEGO - The County of San Diego Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation today officially recognizing June as "Adopt a Cat Month" in San Diego.  The proclamation recognized the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA for their Paws to Success program, an initiative expected to save the lives of hundreds of kittens in its first year through the opening of a kitten nursery facility.

San Diego Humane Society and SPCA President Dr. Mark Goldstein and County of San Diego Department of Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson accepted the proclamation presented by Vice Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price on behalf of the Board of Supervisors at this morning's meeting.

Many shelters across San Diego County are finding it more difficult to find homes for cats than their canine counterparts.  "We are thrilled that the County Board of Supervisors is shedding light on cat adoptions in San Diego," said Goldstein.  "This proclamation helps recognize a message that the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA is bringing to the community - that the cat truly is 'man's other best friend'."

"We hope that this proclamation will bring attention to the challenging situation that many shelters are facing when it comes to cat adoptions," said Danielson, "and we hope that residents will consider visiting a San Diego community shelter when they are ready to add a cat to their family."
