Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at the San Diego Humane Society. Our volunteers are an important and valued part of our organization. Volunteers assist with virtually every aspect of the organization from direct animal care to clerical and administrative tasks. Our volunteers devote their time and skills to help our animals find their second chance homes.
At this time, our general Volunteer Department is temporarily closed for applications. If you have already submitted an application, a Volunteer Department representative will contact you shortly. Please note that we ARE still accepting Foster Volunteer Applications.

Please note that a six month commitment with a minimum of two shifts per month is required to join our program.
Note on Youth Volunteers Minors must be a minimum of 14 years old to volunteer. All youth volunteers must have reliable transportation and a parent or guardian's consent to volunteer. Minors 14 - 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times and can only assist with our rabbits, guinea pigs, and cats. Minors 16-17 years old may volunteer alone and can assist in departments that do not specify a minimum age requirement. Minor volunteers must meet the commitment requirement for the department they are volunteering in.
