Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the San Diego Humane Society. The work we accomplish would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers. We have three locations, employing over 300 staff and relying on more than 2,000 volunteers for their time, love, and support.
Compassionate, dedicated volunteers are needed in all areas of our shelters. It's important to us that volunteering be a full and meaningful experience for everyone who participates. Consequently, we recruit new volunteers for our general program on an every-other-month basis, giving us time to meet the hundreds of people who submit applications and make sure they are properly trained and placed in an appropriate program before they begin.
Applicants who meet the volunteer requirements will be invited to a Volunteer Orientation to learn more about us and the opportunities we offer, as well as participate in a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter. After orientation, volunteers are assigned a program - based on their skills and interests and the needs of the organization - and receive additional hands-on training.
To get started, please read about our opportunities and apply for the city or program that meets your goals.
