We are a private, nonprofit organization that receives no government grant funding, the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA is supported solely by contributions, grants, bequests, investments, proceeds from the Humane Society’s retail store, Muttique, and fees for service.

Currently, we have 280 employees and more than 1,200 volunteers, which shows that volunteers play a very significant role in our organization.

Without the generous help of our volunteers, we could not continue to provide such quality care to our animals and service to the public.

We are fortunate to receive many requests to become a volunteer.  It is important to us that volunteer service be a full and meaningful experience for everyone who participates.  Because of this, we recruit new volunteers for our general program on an every other month basis.  This gives us time to meet the hundreds of people who submit applications and make sure they are properly placed in a program and receive complete training before they begin.  To read more about our recruitment process, please visit our FAQ page or to see if we are currently accepting applications, check our application page.
