Carlsbad City Council Unanimously Votes to Award Animal Services Contract to San Diego Humane Society

Tuesday night, the Carlsbad City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution authorizing an animal control services contract with San Diego Humane Society, effective July 1, 2018.

We appreciate all the work the city staff has done to pull this contract together in time for us to keep homeless and injured animals in Carlsbad safe as of July 1. San Diego Humane Society already provides animal services in the cities of Escondido, Imperial Beach, Oceanside, Poway, San Marcos and Vista. With this new contract, we also will be able to efficiently and effectively provide the animals of Carlsbad the care they need. This translates to more animal lives saved, which is the core of our mission.

The City of Carlsbad’s current contract with the County Department of Animal Services expires on June 30, 2018. San Diego Humane Society is still in negotiations with the five other affected cities: Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Santee and City of San Diego. All of those contracts are progressing positively and we expect to reach agreements soon. With these additional contracts, San Diego Humane Society’s standard of care that we have established in our 138-year history will not waiver.
