In Spanish, Nenita is a term of endearment for a female. So it comes as no surprise that one of our beloved kitties would be given such a designation. Nenita, the nearly 2-year-old Domestic Short Hair, can be shy at first but will warm up if given the time and the space that she needs. Once that happens, she’ll be melting your heart in no time with that sweet personality of hers. Read on to see what Cat Companion volunteer, Mary, has to say about this special kitty and why she has chosen Nenita as her volunteer pick:
What do you like best about Nenita’s personality?
“When I go into the Behavior Center, and softly announce my arrival to all the cats, Nenita jumps off her cat tree and sits by her kennel door and meows as though she is asking to go out. But she is not, instead, she is asking me to hurry and sit down with her so she can crawl on my lap and nuzzle my face. There are also a few kitty kisses thrown in for good measure. She is young and will provide plenty of playful entertainment between lap sitting. She likes heights so she will likely find a few high places in her home where she can survey the scene.”
What first drew you to your pick?
“She drew me, not vice versa. She sat at her kennel door and meowed at me to stop and check her out. She said that she is not an everyday black cat, she is lovable Nenita. She was correct.”
Is there something special about the way your pick looks?
“Her eyes that seem all-seeing and her beautiful shiny fur coat that needs very little grooming. Nenita likes to be brushed but she is meticulous about self grooming. She can stretch out to do a perfect downward dog – yoga people will be jealous.”
What is her coolest/silliest/most unique trait?
“She seems to want out but when I open her kennel door and allow her to roam around, she sits down right inside her kennel with no interest in going out. She likes to be picked up and carried around. She might be prone to being a spoiled cat.”
Anything else that makes your pick awesome?
“It has been gratifying to watch Nenita morph from a shy cat hiding behind a curtain to coming front and center asking for a lap and attention. She may be shy in her new home for a short time but not for long. She has been mellow with other cats that come up to her kennel.”
