Puppy Undergoes Rare, Lifesaving Heart Surgery

Meet Princess – a recovering patient at San Diego Humane Society.

076-princessWhen our veterinary team first met three-month-old Princess, they diagnosed her with a life-threatening birth defect which interfered with her heart’s ability to pump blood. This defect had already caused significant damage to Princess’ little heart muscle; so much so that if she didn’t have corrective surgery, her heart would surely fail.

To provide Princess with the specialized surgery she needed to survive, we reached out to our friends at VCA Animal Hospitals. A cardiologist at VCA, generously agreed to perform the surgery at a discounted rate.

This complicated procedure was a success and Princess is now recovering comfortably in our care! We expect her to go on to lead a full and happy life, the life that every puppy deserves.

We’re pleased to share that Princess is available for adoption! While her road to recovery is still long, we would like her to continue the healing process in the comfort of her new home. Because Princess has received so much attention, she is considered a celebrity pet and requires a special adoption application. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2016.
