You Can Help Clear the Shelters!
Tomorrow will be a day for the history books and we hope you’ll be a part of it. San Diego Humane Society will be participating in Clear the Shelters Day on Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The nationwide adoption drive is in partnership with NBC and Telemundo. There will be waived adoption fees for all animals at SDHS as well as other participating organizations. Last year, we adopted 431 animals into new homes in a single day – more than any other shelter in the country – and we’re looking to beat that record this year!
We use the phrase “clear the shelters” endearingly to express our desire for every shelter pet to have a new home and family of their own. You can help make this wish a reality by coming in to adopt or by sharing this message on your social media pages and by forwarding this email. We understand that it’s not always a good time to add to your family – so if that’s the case for you, there are many other ways you can help “clear the shelter.”
Foster
You can make a difference by temporarily opening your home as a foster volunteer for kittens, dogs, puppies or even adult cats. We make it easy for you. We provide all the training and supplies, and all the medical care needed for fosters to become a lifesaving extension of our work - literally. Foster assignments are available for any length of time (even as short as a weekend!), for animals of all ages and size.
PAWS San Diego
Another unique way to ‘clear the shelter’ is by volunteering for our PAWS San Diego program which helps people keep their pets in their homes and out of shelters. We believe the answer to ending pet homelessness is to give people the tools, support and resources needed for keeping their beloved companions.
Spay/Neuter
Since 2012 we’ve been offering affordable and accessible spay/neuter services to community-owned cats, pit bulls and Chihuahuas – the specific animal populations that flood local shelters. Since this program’s launch, we’ve altered more than 30,000 community-owned animals, but it takes the entire community getting their own pets altered, and helping to get community cats altered as well so we can begin to reduce the number of animals in shelters.
Your involvement in any form is crucial to providing 40,000 companion animals with the relief and refuge they’re depending on. It’s only with your involvement that we can keep animals united with their families and thriving in their homes. Together we can “clear the shelters” once and for all. We certainly can’t do it without you. So on behalf of all of them – thank you for helping us with the animals we all care so much about. Here’s to every single one of them sleeping in their new beds (or yours) in their new homes this Saturday!
