Inspire Compassion
Inspire Compassion. Two simple words that encompass our mission at San Diego Humane Society. It’s something we work every day to accomplish, not just for animals, but for people and entire communities. On its own, a mission statement is just words. It is our actions that give those words power, that bring them to life and allow us to create the change we want to see in the world.
Inspiring Compassion has rarely felt more relevant than it does today. Like you, we’ve watched the events that are unfolding with great sadness. And as we look to Inspire Compassion, we must speak up in support of those who do not have a voice and for those who are marginalized — including people. We must stand up for what is right, and recognize that we all have a role in moving beyond today’s challenges to find solutions for a better world.
For over 140 years we have been a voice for the voiceless, and this moment calls for us to speak loudly and clearly for those who are suffering. Can San Diego Humane Society fix the systemic racism and inequality that have led to the unrest throughout our country — no. What we can do is affirm for those we serve our commitment to never stop identifying opportunities to Inspire Compassion. Whether it’s our Humane Law Officers assisting pet families in the field, our adoption counselors supporting those looking to add a new family member, or our community engagement team providing free pet food to families who are struggling.
We recognize that each interaction we have is an opportunity to Inspire Compassion, and we commit to treating every single person with integrity and equality, every single time. We add our voice to those fighting to secure this treatment for every individual in every situation… whether human or animal.
Stay safe,
